Christmas day in a colorful musictown

Fairytales from Brazil

At christmas day we did a day trip to Olinda, a small town filled with colors and music. Olinda is a colonial town with a really nice historic part where we spent most of our time. All the streets were lined with small colorful houses, some of them painted with really nice graffiti pictures. Music was played everywhere and people were sitting outside their houses enjoying the day. The atmosphere was really laid back so it was really easy to just relax :).

There was a high hill, Alto da Sé, from which there was a great view over the ocean and the surroundings. You could see all the way to Recife with its tall buildings. In the evening there was a christmas party up on Alto da Sé. Lots of food- and drink stalls were lined up and music was playing loudly. A lot of people gathered there to celebrate.

We stood in line for a tapioka for half an hour but never got one cause the old lady was so busy making them for other people. We settled for a whiskey from one of the drink stalls: a generous size of whiskey glass for about 1,8 euro. Well, not so bad, either. Merry Christmas!
