Shangri La

Loving Bolivia, where lunacy still roams

It was really time to get out of La Paz and go somewhere more relaxing in order to charge the batteries. So we (Armon,Anna,Mickus) jumped in the back row of a combi van smack packed with Bolivians. It was a 3 hours hair raising ride to the small town of Sorata. The road to this idyllic paradise twisted down from 4000m to 2800m and even an atheist would have made small prayers that the car would stay on the road. Luckily everything went well and we arrived at the retreat Altai Oasis located a few minutes outside town. Not much to mention about our stay here. Jim and Genevieve arrived a few days after. We have mostly been drinking wine & san pedro, playing games and chilling in the large gardens. This is the perfect place for relaxing; there is a beautiful view over the valley with the Illampu mountain’s (6427m) snowy peak majestically standing in the distance. The air is filled with the sweet smell of the uncountable eucalyptus trees that decorate this huge garden where numerous beautiful plants grow and some hairy llamas roam.

One hilariously funny incident took place when Armon and Mickus went to a reggae bar in town. While they were drinking a beer and enjoying a fat one suddenly a monkey called Wilson rushed in, jumped our table and started drinking our beer!!! He then jumped all around, swung from the chandelier and went completely ape. He run out and started sucking the dick of the dog in the garden!!! We were thinking, what the hell just happened! That’s one crazy monkey and we almost crapped our self laughing :)
